A Bit About Me:
I was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
As a fourth year honours student at McGill University, I devote a lot of my time to my studies. When I am not doing readings or writing papers, I like to spend time with friends and explore the beautiful city of Montreal, Quebec. I also devote a lot of my time to volunteering. Right now, I volunteer for Save A Child's Heart at McGill, which aims to raise funds to provide children with life-saving surgery by giving them a new, healthy heart. Upon the completion of my degree at McGill, I would like to take some time off to volunteer abroad and explore various cultures, landscapes, and activities that await me outside of Canada and North America. After that, I plan on continuing my studies in Sociology in graduate school.
While I am very interested in my studies, I have many passions that lie outside the realm of academia. I have always loved art. Whether this means visiting art galleries, working on a painting, or mindlessly doodling on a foggy window, art has been a passion of mine for my entire life. I have also always loved reading and writing. Ever since I was young, I always loved to immerse myself in an engrossing novel, getting lost in another person's world or story. One book that I recently read and really enjoyed is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, by Jonathan Safran Foer. Another hobby of mine is being active. I love hiking, walking, rollerblading, running, water sports and activities such as canoe tripping. My love for nature and being active began when I started attending overnight summer camp at Camp Timberlane, at the age of nine. At camp, campers were encouraged to appreciate the beauty of nature and the outdoors of Northern Ontario. In particular, our canoe trips to Algonquin Park and Temagami were inspiring and extremely significant experiences in my childhood and adolescence.
My experiences at summer camp, combined with my commitment to academics, inspired me to study abroad in Auckland, New Zealand last Winter. I was granted the life changing opportunity to study at the best university in New Zealand, to witness some of the most incredible sights in the world, and to form lifelong friendships. New Zealand was by far the most beautiful country I have been to, and I recommend that everyone makes the 15 hour flight over there. After my studies, two of my flatmates and I spent one month traveling around Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. My experiences abroad have ignited a desire to travel the world, and during my gap year I plan on seeing as much of the world as I possibly can.
I also like watching TV shows. I generally don't spend very much time watching television, but I do like following one show at a time. Right now, I'm hooked on the TV show "Shameless," starring William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum.
